two wolves

‘We have two wolves that live within us, a good wolf and an evil wolf. Which one dominates? It depends which one we feed.’ ~ Cherokee proverb

What is our nature? Are we competition-based or cooperation-based? I will assert that our Western world is competition-based, certainly in its false worship of the ‘god or economic growth’ above all. I will assert that First Nations societies are more cooperation-based, certainly within their own tribe. And so, we see examples of these two aspects of our nature throughout our recorded history, and what reflects our true nature?

I have witnessed both the competitive and cooperative energies working within me. When I have observed the base feeling that has influenced my behaviour in either of those directions, I note that in competition-mode I am operating from a base level of fear. Thoughts/feelings like, ‘I must prove myself’, predicated on a feeling of fear that I am not enough if I do not. When I break that down, I know it’s a lie I have told myself.

From a cooperative standpoint, I know I am enough, I can lead and assist with ease. I can feel the connective elements between living beings that permeate existence. It feels like the Truth, and it is. And we find ourselves here, in this human world where both aspects exist. It provides me with exceptional contrast of experience, and thus an ability to learn a great deal about my nature and triggers, knowing that it all depends on which wolf my thoughts and feelings are feeding.

What have you learned about yourself within this dichotomy?

Much love ALL
